Here you’ll find some commonly asked questions about soffit and fascia. For other questions about this part of roofing in Pittsburgh, give Knox’s Construction a call.
Q: What is fascia?
A: Fascia boards are flat panels of painted
wood, aluminum or PVC that Pittsburgh roofing contractors nail vertically along the end of rafters at the roof’s edge. Fascia protects the rafters from the elements, and also acts as an anchor for the gutter system.
Q: What is a soffit?
A: Soffits are fitted horizontally along the underside of overhanging eaves. Typically made of painted wood, vinyl or aluminum, their primary jobs are to keep birds and critters out of the attic, and to allow air to circulate within the attic space.
Q: My home has wood fascia and soffit, but I want to switch to a low-maintenance material. Is this possible?
A: Yes. We can cover wood that isn’t damaged or rotted with other materials such as aluminum. In addition to covering the wood, we’ll first make sure proper attic ventilation is in place and the panels are color-matched to your home.
Q: Will I be able to find new soffits and fascia that match my home?
A: Yes, we feature soffits and fascia in a wide range of colors and styles to match your current exterior.
Q: My current soffit panels don’t have venting. Should I be concerned?
A: Yes. Vented soffits ensure a properly ventilated attic free of excessive heat, condensation and mold growth. Knox’s can conduct an inspection and plan solutions to your soffit problems.
